Fell over this in our Mason Photographic Collection while searching for something else entirely. But realising that I know absolutely nothing about this ornate book cover, if that's what it is, thought that perhaps some of you might be able to help...

Yet another weird and wonderful image from the Irish Tourist Association Collection with "Ruined nunnery at Bethlehem". Yesterday we learned of a real lady hero in the cause of equality and today we see where women lived, worked and prayed many years ago. The setting is probably much more pleasant than it seems in this image from 1942 but times must have been tough for them.

The supporting caption states that this is a portrait of Brother Cecilian and two women of Thomastown, County Kilkenny, and so we can probably expect that the ladies were family, mother and sister? Cecilian must have been an unusual name and no doubt was frequently shortened to Cecil, which is a lot better than some names imposed on other religious personages.

Benediction at Watling Street bridge to celebrate the centenary of Catholic Emancipation in Ireland. This is not the Eucharistic Congress, and even though it is a more modest affair there is no shortage of clerics and congregation. The choice of Bridge is interesting as "Watling Street" is the name of an old Roman Road in England.

At one time the Poole Collection would have vied with the Lawrence for the greatest number of posts but we haven't seen it for a while now so this is a welcome posting! Father Dowling, Myshall, Bagnalstown (?) looks a worried man. Is he about to lose a parish or take over a new one?
