Two of the Dillon sisters and one of the Crofton brothers in the garden of Clonbrock House, Ahascragh, Co. Galway. It can't have been the harshest of Autumns in Galway in 1864, as there are still a good smattering of leaves on the trees...

Many of us don't have even one Drawing Room, but Mount Juliet in Co. Kilkenny was blessed with two. According to the photographer's description, this is Drawing Room No. 1, although the family surely did not call it that.

Mount Juliet is a Georgian mansion built in 1757, and was named after Juliana, the Earl of Carrick's wife, who was always known as Juliet. It is now a hotel.

This is the very lovely Miss Dee of Bansha, Co. Tipperary. Think that I found her family in the 1911 census online, so this is either Winnifred (25), Margaret (21), or Johanna (20). All three are noted as single (with Margaret recorded as a Civil Servant), although I think I spy an engagement ring on Miss Dee's left hand. If not an engagement ring, it's still a very spiffing piece of jewellery...

National Army soldiers searching through the remains of a fire at the Rotunda Rink, Parnell Square, which was the sorting office of the General Post Office, Dublin.

The Irish Times of Monday, 6 November 1922 contained this report of the event:
"The Rotunda Rink Post Office, Dublin, was destroyed by fire yesterday morning.
At about 6.40 o'clock armed men compelled a watchman to admit them at the western gate. The officials on duty were ordered into a small room, and later were escorted into Lower Dominick street, when they were instructed to walk towards the Broadstone Station.
In the meanwhile, other men entered the Rink with tins of petrol, with which they saturated the floors, and, when their preparations were complete, set the place on fire.
Within an hour, despite the efforts of the fire brigade to extinguish the flames, the Rink was a mass of smouldering ashes and twisted ironwork.
The destruction of the Rink has resulted in the loss of a great quantity of correspondence. There will be only two deliveries in the city today, but to-morrow there will be three. The postal authorities, apparently, intend to use Banba Hall as a temporary sorting office."
