This is the Signal Cabin at Athlone West, Co. Westmeath.
No name for the gentleman unfortunately, but as he has his CIÉ (Coras Iompair Éireann) jacket on, he's definitely a railway employee.
This photo was taken at 3 minutes to 3 on a sunny afternoon, and also shows the new electric diagram for line switching, approaching trains, etc. (clunky looking box above the signal levers).
Oh, and this chap was obviously too busy posing for James O'Dea - he'd forgotten to change the calendar from November to December...

A group of students from Mallow pictured at De La Salle College, Waterford. Many of the young Corkmen are wearing the Fáinne rings and/or Pioneer badges on their lapels, showing that they speak Irish (enthusiastically) and abstain from alcohol.

The scene at Waterford Court House when John Redmond, M.P. was nominated (although he is not present in the photo). The second Westminster election in 1910 took place from 3 to 19 December. John Redmond, an adamant opponent of female suffrage, was leader of the Irish Parliamentary Party which took 11% of the seats.
This photo shows a great sense of occasion (and a great array of moustaches)!

This "Dining Room" with its imaginary fireplace is just one of a set of dressed rooms that was photographed for Mr Raymond Corish, and must have been quite a modern innovation...
Raymond Corish's were furniture sellers. From other photos in our collections, there was a large warehouse selling all manner of household furniture, with "dressed" sets for different rooms in houses, including bedrooms, nurseries, drawing rooms...

This is the train station at the gloriously named Horse and Jockey, Co. Tipperary. There's something a little bleak about this photo, perhaps the bare trees in the depths of winter... Anyway, this station was opened in 1880, but closed two years after this photo was taken.
