Earlier on Sunday, before I found the migratory waterfowl above the dam, I was a few miles downriver and watching my first-of-year Great Blue Herons. Many have returned to the rookery at Marshall Terrace Park in North Minneapolis. The first thing I noticed upon arrival is just how many more Double-crested Cormorants were back as well, and competing for nesting spots. I even saw a squabble between the two species and the Great Blue Heron seemed to be the winner. I took some shots of the Cormorants too, but I was reminded of how bad the light can be at this spot unless you're there in the morning. I had the lighten the heck out of these shots to see any detail. Anyhow, it was fun to see these big goofy looking birds again. Hennepin County, MN 04/02/23

A couple more photos of Purple Martins from the end of May. I believe both of these are females as they're not solid, dark purple like the males. Wayzata, Hennepin County, MN 05/30/22
