Not exactly the sharpest photo, but I'm always happy to catch a Brown Creeper on the edge of a tree so that you can see the birds profile. Hennepin County, MN 01/04/25

Every January, I end up capturing a very similar photo of a White-breasted Nuthatch. In part, because there are far fewer species this time of year, and also because they are so often in a similar pose. I can't think of another bird that seems to prefer being upside-down. Seeing a handful of first-of-year birds in the sun this afternoon, did wonders for my mood. The view of this Northern Flicker is a bit from underneath, but that allowed some of the yellow-shafted feathers to be seen. This was right around the time our high temperature for the day peaked at just 12ºF. Hennepin County, 01/04/25

Another pic of the Great Horned Owl. From yesterday, as I didn't get back today as I'd hoped. Hennepin County, MN 12/31/24

This afternoon, I followed the sound of crows to a tall pine tree and sure enough, a Great Horned Owl was staring back at me. This is the last nature photo I've captured in 2024 -not a bad way to close out the year! I'm tempted to return tomorrow in hopes of finding it again and adding to my new checklist for 2025. Happy New Year!!! Hennepin County, MN 12/31/24
