il faro alla "fin del mundo"
Canale Beagle, confine Cile Argentina, Patagonia, Tierra del Fuego. 1000 km all' Antartide.
Fu messo in servizio il 23 Dicembre 1920 ed è tutt’oggi funzionante, seppur disabitato.
Come si vede, qui staziona una colonia di leoni marini, qualche elefante marino e centinaia di cormorani di Magellano.
Gli argentini lo hanno soprannominato Faro del Fin del Mundo, creando un po’ di confusione. Il vero faro alla fine del Mondo è il faro di San Juan de Salvamento, situato sulla costa orientale della remota Isla de los Estados, reso famoso da Jules Verne nel romanzo Il faro alla fine del Mondo.

Beagle Channel, border with Chile, Argentina, Patagonia, Tierra del Fuego.
It was put into service on December 23, 1920 and is still functioning today, although uninhabited.
As you can see, a colony of sea lions, some elephant seals and hundreds of Magellanic cormorants are stationed here.
The Argentinians have nicknamed it the Faro del Fin del Mundo, creating some confusion. The real lighthouse at the end of the world is the San Juan de Salvamento lighthouse, located on the eastern coast of the remote Isla de los Estados, made famous by Jules Verne in the novel The Lighthouse at the End of the World.

La luce che ho incontrato in questa parte di Sud America, é stata una straordinaria sorpresa. Altri mi avevano raccontato di condizioni fotografiche eccellenti e non posso che confermare di aver avuto sempre un supporto extra positivo dall'esterno. Cieli con nuvole stupende, aria gelida e pulita, gli ampi spazi vuoti che prediligo, panorami sconfinati, montagne altissime sempre sullo sfondo e la mia critica ed art director sempre al mio fianco ......
Il nome “Terra del Fuoco” è stato coniato dall'esploratore portoghese Ferdinando Magellano; navigando per conto della Corona spagnola, nel 1520 fu il primo europeo a raggiungere questo territorio. Navigando vicino alla costa notò il fumo di diversi fuochi accesi dagli Yámana per scaldarsi oppure come rudimentale tecnica di disboscamento, probabilmente credendo che gli “indiani” si nascondessero nella foresta per preparare un'imboscata alla sua flotta.

The name “Tierra del Fuego” was coined by the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan; sailing on behalf of the Spanish Crown, in 1520 he was the first European to reach this territory. Sailing near the coast he noticed the smoke of several fires lit by the Yámana to warm themselves or as a rudimentary deforestation technique, probably believing that the “Indians” were hiding in the forest to prepare an ambush for his fleet.
