Scarborough North Bay Railway diesel hydraulic 4-6-2 1931 Neptune, 28th June 2024. The North Bay Railway is a 20 inch gauge miniature railway built in 1931 and runs for almost a mile between Peasholm Park and Scalby Mills in the North Bay area of Scarborough. It opened with one locomotive, 1931 Neptune built by Hudswell Clarke, for a cost of £1000. After the successful first season, it was decided that another locomotive was required and 1932 Triton was built by Hudswell Clarke for the 1932 season. Both locomotives are still in service today along with a third identical locomotive built in 1933 for Golden Acre Park in Leeds later used at Morecambe, Kilverstone and Great Woburn Safari Park before arriving at Scarborough in December 2006 where it was given the number 1933 and named Poseidon. Neptune is the oldest surviving operational diesel hydraulic locomotive in the world.
