08220 stands in a rather green part of the yard at the Great Central Railway (North) headquarters, Ruddington, 29th June 2013.

Locomotive History
Originally 13290 and then D3290 it was built at Derby works and entered traffic in December 1956, allocated to Nottingham MPD. It was transferred to Crewe ten years later on the closure of Nottingham MPD in 1966 where it would remain until withdrawal. It received it last classified repair at Swindon works in March 1978 and this repair would keep 08220 in traffic for another eight years until withdrawn in March 1986. Following withdrawal it was sold as a source of spares and moved to Carnforth where it would slowly decay for almost twenty years. After a spell at a contractors yard at Wrenbury from 2006 it arrived at Ruddington in October 2008 and after twenty three years of neglect has been fully restored.

Barton Transport was one of the major “non municipal” bus operators in the East Midlands. The company was based at Chilwell on the outskirts of Nottingham and gained a reputation for having a fascinating and varied fleet of vehicles during the 1950s and 1960s, many of which I would have had a ride on as I was a frequent traveller on Barton buses as a young lad. However that was to all change with the aid of government grants in the early 1970’s. This allowed Barton to disposal of the fascinating and varied fleet and standardize on new coaches. One of these is 1146 (DAL 771J) an AEC Reliance 6U3R chassis fitted with a Plaxton Panorama Elite Express C53F body which entered service with Barton in 1970. Following withdrawal by Barton it was sold to Rules, Boxford, Suffolk, who operated DAL 771J in service until 1998 after which it languished on a farm for some time until rescued for preservation.

Mark 1 Corridor Composite (CK) M16190 stands at Ruddington on the Great Central Railway (North), 29th June 2013.

Vehicle History
The British Railways Mark I CK, built from 1951 onwards, had four First-class and three Third-class (Second-class from 1956) compartments, with a vestibule separating the 1st and 2nd sections, and a sliding door to divide the corridor. There were two variants; those built to Diagram 126 for the Midland, Scottish, and Eastern / North Eastern regions had six seats per compartment in 2nd class, with fold-up arm-rests which folded into the seat-back, while those built to Diagram 128 for the Southern and Western regions, with their heavy commuter loadings into London, had eight seats in each 2nd class compartment, and no arm-rests. All first class compartments sat six passengers, with folding arm rests which lifted into cushion dividers between the seats, using a lower bench with six individual square cushions on top for greater comfort. 2nd class seating was of the interior sprung bench type. M16190 is a diagram 126 CK built to lot 30665 at Derby in 1961. It was built with Commonwealth bogies and was vacuum braked and dual heated. It was withdrawn in 1994 since when it has had its Commonwealth bogies replaced by BR1 bogies. The photograph is of the corridor side with the two middle doors that do not align with the one middle door on the compartment side and the odd narrow windows each side of the middle doors.
