One from a 2011 adventure in Tibet.

Happy Children roll an old tire down main street in Lhasa Tibet... Sometimes Simple Pleasures are best.

It’s been 13 years since I came upon these playful children in Lhasa, and yet this photo still warms my heart. I found the Tibetans to be a friendly and helpful people, as are most of the folks I have met on my journeys.

My Sunday started off with my Backyard Buddy chirping for me to come join him. I grabbed a coffee and my camera, and made my way outside; we both basked for a awhile in the sunshine… it was a fine morning indeed !!

The Black Phoebe:

The Black Phoebe is a dapper flycatcher of the western U.S. with a sooty black body and crisp white belly. They sit in the open on low perches to scan for insects, often keeping up a running series of shrill chirps. Black Phoebes use mud to build cup-shaped nests against walls, overhangs, culverts, and bridges. Look for them near any water source from small streams to suburbs, all the way to the salt-sprayed rocks and cliffs of the Pacific Ocean.

Although it mostly eats insects, the Black Phoebe sometimes snatches minnows from the surface of ponds. It may even feed fish to nestlings.

The male Black Phoebe gives the female a tour of potential nest sites, hovering in front of each likely spot for 5 to 10 seconds. But it’s the female who makes the final decision and does all the nest construction.

The oldest Black Phoebe on record was at least 8 years old when it was recaptured and released during banding operations in California.

Scooted over to the coast yesterday afternoon for a late day photo shoot. Caught the last of the light as the Sun slipped into the pacific… It was a Good Day !!

Spotted these colorful cliffs during a summertime trip to the Eastern Sierra. I decided to try a different route and I’m glad I did… always nice to discover something different to view, especially after living 80 years in California.

Red Rock Canyon:

Red Rock Canyon is a state park in California which features scenic desert cliffs, buttes and spectacular rock formations. The park consists of approximately 27,000 acres (110 km2) where the southernmost tip of the Sierra Nevada converges with the El Paso Mountains.

Each tributary canyon is unique, with vivid colors due to alternate layers of white clay and red sandstone, further accented by pink volcanic rocks and brown lava formations. The canyon was formed 3 million years ago.

Some petroglyphs and pictographs are found in the El Paso Mountains and represent ritual sites from ancestors of the Coso people who were early indigenous inhabitants of this locale. They created extensive carvings in rock within the El Paso and neighboring mountains of Red Rock Canyon and conducted considerable trade with other tribes as far as the Chumash on the Pacific coast.

The colorful rock formations in the park served as landmarks during the early 1870s for 20-mule team freight wagons that stopped for water. The park protects significant paleontology sites and the remains of 1890s-era mining operations.
