The first challenge of 2016 is all about, new things. Trying or doing something new, photographing it, and telling how you liked it. (Or didn't like it!)

January 11 - Food/Snack

On a visit to Korea, my brother found some candy from the area and shared this with me (as he knows I always like to try things). This happened to be a Japanese treat. One makes the frosting and assembles everything while following some instructions (written in Japanese, but with helpful and descriptive pictures I was able to decipher). Pretty tasty frosting, but I would have to say the assembly time was a lot for how quickly I ate it! Maybe next time I would leave the assembly to someone else.

January 13 - Movie/TV Show

So a friend had suggested 'Sherlock' the series. At the time I was not sure if it was a movie or a show, so I figured I had never seen it. As soon as my wife and I brought it up on Netflix I realized 'been there...done that'. To find it our search had started with 'Sher', so this movie also came up in the results. 1.5 stars and something about Robin Hood and zombies?! B-movie? We'll give it a spin.

I would have to say it is horribly awful. Not sure I can put it in words. Painfully delivered dialogue (and dialogue to begin with), some gore, and awful acting. As things were so awful I jokingly said all it needed was a musical break, and then enter the sappy love song montage (pictured).
It was so awful it kept me guessing what would happen next. Robin Hood was very successful at dying. And Marian would have been wonderful at debate jumping from one side to the other as she would one moment condemn stealing and the next moment suggest Robin steal from her cousin the Sheriff.

I think my favorite line was from Little John as he gives jazz hands while delivering 'but you went all CrAzY and tried to escape'.

Roll credits with heavy rock song. Looking for a B-movie and not looking for something serious, this is a win. If you want something with a message, this is not it.

January 15 - Drink (alcoholic or not)

Fruity with a little kick. An interesting drink. I do have to say I like the combo of cranberries and jalapenos, but I would not be able to finish the whole thing as I am not a big fan of Tequila (though it was quite nice). Much obliged to my friend for the sample.

January 19 - Road/ Route

After being sick and missing the challenge for the 17th I was ready to get out. My daughter and I left for the store and I decided a simple 1 mile more west would be a different enough route. After passing a road with a partially painted sign I decided to check the GPS and make sure I wasn't driving an even farther distance. Certain I had passed my intended route I proceeded to turnaround and that is when I saw it. Not believing my own eyes telling me there was a giant arrowhead sticking out of the trees just a little farther down the road, I decided to investigate. Sure enough!

Update: Found out this was originally the "Arrows to Atoms" sculpture that sat in the OK State Fairgrounds from 1957-1967. The atom and Oklahoma sections were removed and the tower was shortened to what you see here.

January 21 - Book/magazine/blog

So I got a new phone. Something I had been successfully holding off for almost a year now.
Note: cellphone screens and tile floors do not mix well when they do a face plant on one.

I was comfortable with my old one, and the fact that cracks made some parts not visible didn't seem to bother me. Clear tape over the face stopped any cuts and all the cracks in the screen seemed to insure no one would take it. Giving into a vendor and wife whose screen also finally cracked is making me learn how to use a phone all over again.

Step one was clearing off all the preloaded apps crowding the screen and asking me to 'get started' everytime I accidently pressed them. The secrets lay in a little booklet that I all too often ignore.
