80 004 of PIMK Rail is passing through Svetovrachane station with intermodal train from Bozhurishte to Burgas. A few days before the same train had a bad fate to collide with train of BDZ Cargo a few kilometers ahead. The collision resulted to 2 dead from the crew of BDZ's train and 6 more people which were badly injured. Overall 4 locomotives were smashed in the collision - 2 of them of PIMK rail and 2 of BDZ Cargo. On the right side of the photo you can see the smashed locomotives of PIMK Rail - almost brand new Siemens Smartron #80 013 and the diesel loco 07 063 which was overhauled in Poland a few years ago. The locomotives of BDZ Cargo - 55 155 and 55 093 are even more damaged and will be scrapped directly on the place of the collision, while those of PIMK Rail were pulled to the nearest station - Svetovrachane. Probably due to the serious damage to both locs they will be also scrapped. The reason for the collision is a human mistake - obviously the train of BDZ Cargo was sent directly from a industrial siding which don't have an exit signal. I hope this accident will be a warning signal to the high level management and politics in Bulgaria that the railways are in very bad condition and need major investments and proper future development plan.

46 002 of BDZ Cargo is passing through Dolno Ezerovo station with freight train from Pirdop. A nice meeting with 07 663 of DB Cargo performed. Untill a few years ago it was a very unusual sight for Ludmilla to appear at this station, but in the past two-three years the trains from the branch line to Debelt are hauled by DB Cargo and sometimes by Port Rail which are using class 06 diesels for them.

46.03 - the steam monster of BDZ is under steam again! Granny Bear (Baba Metsa in Bulgarian) has been recently awaken from a long winter sleep and is under steam again after more than 5 years of standstill due to delayed overhaul of the boiler tubes. Last weekend the locomotive served two Christmas trains from Sofia to two different destinations - Pernik and Bankya. Last year the same Christmas trains were hauled by the Swiss loco 01.23, but now the Granny Bear take them. On the photo the locomotive is departing the train from Pernik station on 14 December 2024. On the next day was the trip to Bankya.
