The building seen in the above image occupied the corner of Fishergate and Falkland Street (address was No. 81 Fishergate). Falkland Street was formerly known as Water Street West.
Also seen at street level are the premises of T. Parish, cycle showroom, and at far left, the hair cutting salon of W.H. Smith at No. 80 Fishergate.
The tram lines seen in the foreground ran along Corporation Street and terminated a short distance off to the right of the photograph at the junction with Charnley street. The 1900 Tramways Act for Preston allowed for a tramway to be constructed from Fishergate via Corporation Street, Kendal Street and Moor Lane to the junction with North Road where it would link on to the Deepdale circular route. Also planned was a spur from Corporation Street to Fylde Road linking on to the Ashton route. The short stub seen in the above image was the only portion of the planned extensions to be completed.
