A quiet Sunday evening in October finds the Conrail SP20 passing the soon to be sunk SS United States at Pier 82 in Philadelphia, PA.

After spending nearly 30 years at Pier 82 waiting on restoration plans through multiple owners, the ocean liner was recently purchased by Okaloosa County in Florida to be sunk and turned into the world's largest artificial reef. While I never dedicated much time to focusing on South Philly operations, I am thankful to have walked away with one photo of a train on the Philadelphia Belt Line passing "The Big U".

Not something you want to see while climbing 3.22% grade in the snow. CSX local L022 creeps up to a delivery truck fouling the street-running portion of the Claverack Industrial Track in Hudson, NY on February 14, 2025. The SD40-2 duo is lugging several cars up the steep grade for ADM Milling Company located at the end of the branch.

Berkshire & Eastern ED-9 pulls through the rock cut outside of East Deerfield Yard with what I believe are the remaining two Pan Am painted GP40s on the western portion of the railroad. The train would eventually head down the Conn River Line to work customers off the main.

Two down, one to go. The second Portal North Bridge Arch ducks under three lift bridges on the Hackensack River in Kearny for installation upstream. The arches are constructed in the Port of Coeymans, NY and are floated down the Hudson and Hackensack rivers. While transport down the Hudson is a fairly mundane journey, the trek up the Hackensack River requires maneuvering through the seven moveable bridges within a six mile stretch for delivery to the construction site. The three bridges pictured are PATH's Hack Bridge, Conrail's Hack Bridge, and the Route 7 Wittpenn Bridge.
