Jonny's Nissan Patrol on top of the massive dune where I was able to take the pictures of the other dunes (the "dunes on a dune"). In the distance a distinctive "Pac Man" dune such as are a feature of this area.
I was quite surprised how effective the lens shade seems to have been. No flare in any of these even though it is pretty much straight into the sun.

At a glance sand dunes can seem quite homogeneous. However, it is amazing the variety of structures one can run into. For example, on the top of this rather large specimen was a fairly large "summit" area which was playing host to its own sand dunes on top of the parent sand dune.
This picture also illustrates a property of composition which for some reason I seem to notice more with the large format camera. This is that the same "normal" camera lens can feel quite "long" or quite "wide" depending upon how the subject is framed.

This is a similar but tighter view to one I published earlier. It is also on negative rather than slide film. One effect of all this that I notice is that my eye is drawn beyond the foreground attractions to the long straight diagonal of the abandoned road that crosses the frame and the tip of the dune's tail.
I have quite a romantic attraction to these sorts of places where a road has been defiantly forced through a rugged landscape; time has passed; and the landscape is reclaiming the land from the road.
