These are from a night photography excursion I went on recently with my good friend, Wessel.
The Crown does not have a great range of movements but I did shift the lens here.
This is a drum scan done by Tim Parkin. I think the colour and definition is much improved.
A similar tonal reshaping that I performed with the UFO house. I had always wanted this sort of "glow" coming off the building because it is what I visualised at the time but I wasn't previously able to acheive it.

So far this is my favourite of the images taken on the outing with Wessel.
This is the drum scan done by Tim Parkin. The detail is astounding.
This edit has been all about shaping the tonal information of the photograph and tuning the contrast. Some subtle refinements have also, I hope, helped the picture "rest" in the frame. This is getting very close to what I imagined when I first saw the slide on the light table.

P.S. It turns out my suspicions that I'd better photograph it soon were well founded... It was demolished soon after I took this.

This is the best of the retakes of "the one that got away".
I decided to use the Saturday morning of my departure to try and get a really iconic shot of San Francisco to take away. After a very long tour through the hills looking for a decent view I ended up back here. I raced to set up as I could just see a pink sliver of cloud forming and I knew from previous experience from my hotel balcony that this was a phenomenon that lasted at most a minute or two. I took a reading and set up the camera. I needed a four second exposure.
About twenty minutes after taking that shot I checked the lens shutter again. It was set to 1/60. So even though I had held down the cable release for four seconds I had gotten an exposure of 1/60. A shot that is eight stops under-exposed is never going to be beautiful even if the image is even visible. Well, trust me. It was beautiful.
As it turns out the light was pretty cloudy and crummy the whole morning. This was the best I got after missing the magic. A nice view. And the overcast light did at least pick out the lovely colours of the houses.
This version is generated from a drum scan made for me by Tim Parkin. It is the result of applying what I have learned about working with images to the exact same scan. I revisit important images every now and then in order to prove whether I am really making progress. It also helps me to look back and see how I have changed and hopefully grown.

Well this was a challenging one to say the least. The previous version was so powerful. However, far too much realism had been sacrificed to get the image as concentrated as it needed to be. All of these local edits are relatively easy in black and white but once you put colour in the mix things can get messy fast. I used a variety of techniques to arrive at what you see here. Hopefully, the strong central stream is still there but the image as a whole looks a little more believable. One thing you will definitely notice is that Mount Rainier survives this edit. The drum scan by Tim Parkin certainly gives me the best possible starting point.

There are two more good ones on this roll but this is the last one from Zekreet. This one is my favourite. If it doesn't look like much then look at it bigger, preferably full screen.
I really hope everyone else in Flickr land likes this as much as I do.
Out of curiosity I had Tim Parkin drum scan this strip of medium format film on his drum scanner at the same 4000dpi that I had scanned it on my Coolscan 9000ED. There are some technical advantages to the drum scanner but it is astounding how close the Coolscan comes.
What I notice in this drum scans are the more open shadows (I actually had to darken them back down in post processing to keep the feel that I want for this picture) and the rich and accurate colour reproduction. It is really very very close, however.
