What a wonderful moment, when we step on the cool sand of the beach; while waiting for the sun to rise on the horizon. And when it does, always in a different way; as we hope for the perfect morning!

Spanish Moss is a very important component of the Florida woodland and landscape. Is not truly a moss or parasitic, it absorbs nutrients and water through its leaves from the air and rainfall. I love it because is a truly beautiful natural decoration on trees.

This image is a straight JPG from the D300, no edit. A big liana from the Florida woodlands. A liana is a long-stemmed, woody vine that is rooted in the soil at ground level and uses trees, as well as other means of vertical support, to climb up to the canopy in search of direct sunlight. Wikipedia.

This gentle giant that took hundreds of years to reach its size, didn't have a chance a few years ago against the sandy soil, its weight in tons, and certainly a hurricane. But every time I see fallen trees in the forest, I know there is a purpose. I'm going to quote George Wuerthner from one of his biology articles: "Dead trees and down wood play an important role in ecosystems by providing wildlife habitat, cycling nutrients, aiding plant regeneration, decreasing erosion, and influencing drainage and soil moisture and carbon storage, among other values".

Was waiting for the noonrise at New Smyrna Beach, but the far away clouds or atmospheric conditions did'nt let the moon show up at the near horizon. No matter, was a great full moon over the sea. The color of the moon was fantastic, like almost pink. Press "L" for large and then "Esc" to come back.
