Look beautiful, but the real truth is different. This one is not a native plant, was brought to Florida for decoration and now the Brazilian pepper tree (Schinus terebinthifolius) is one of the most tenacious, difficult-to-control invasive plants in Florida, exerting a devastating ecological and economic impact in the area.

A ground section of an upland hardwood forest populated by big old Live oak trees. You can see here most of the elements of this ancient forest, fallen dry leaves, Spanish moss, small branches, and a typical plant or vine; components that will enrich the soil.

Spanish Moss is a very important component of the Florida woodland and landscape. Is not truly a moss or parasitic, it absorbs nutrients and water through its leaves from the air and rainfall. I love it because is a truly beautiful natural decoration on trees.
