Adult male Phidippus whitmani jumping spider.

Single exposure, hand held, diffused flash.

Notes: This is an eastern species occurring from Nova Scotia west to Manitoba and North Dakota and south to Texas and northern Florida. This spider has been found in low herbaceous vegetation and the leaf litter in hardwood forests. Male TBL 4.1-9.6 mm.

According to G. B. Edwards (2004), this is the only member of the genus Phidippus that is found primarily near the ground in forests.

Male Phidippus audax bold jumping spider. This species is one of the first to appear after the long winter months. Photographing a male can be quite challenging as they rarely sit still. A common species, yet I never tire of their friendly and familiar faces.

Single exposure, hand held, diffused flash.

Notes: During the winter they may form aggregations in protected spaces. Females lay their eggs under the bark of trees or shrubs. Male TBL 6-13 mm.
