Some 23 years ago, we stayed in a holiday cottage at the beautiful Halgabron Mill, between Tintagel and Boscastle on the North Cornwall coast (See map). Halgabron is actually in St. Nectan's Glen and we always intended to take the walk up the Glen to the ultimate goal, the waterfall at St. Nectan's Kiev. However, my wife being heavily pregnant with number 2 son at the time, it never happened. We put that to right this year and I'm glad we did!
I wouldn't like to guess how long it is since this tree fell across the brook but it would have been interesting to be there! It's now, slowly but surely disapearing into the undergrowth.
Knowing thet the treck was fairly long, steep and muddy, I left the tripod in the car....bad move! So this is taken (as seems to be happening ever more frequently) "shooting blind" from waist height with the 5D II set at ISO 2,000 and f8 to give a fairly slow shutter speed. Same shot taken 5 times and this one was the pick of the crop! (Sorry to go on. You never know. Someone out there might find it interesting?!?)

At the head of St. Nectan's Glen stands St. Nectan's Kieve. One of the strangest places I have ever visited. Having walked up from almost sea-level, we were charged £4.00 each to go back down the steps into the cauldron to see the waterfall. Everywhere you look there are little shrines, photographs and mementos . It is obviously a place of hugely religious significance to a lot of people and, even though it was deserted when we visited, it really does have an aura of "presence" about it.
Long treck > No tripod > Shooting blind from the hip at high ISO, Low aperture, slow shutter speed. This was the best of the series of 5 shots that I took. I could have achieved so much more if I had come eqipped for purpose. A definite re-visit, perhaps next year?

I guess that the whole of this week in Cornwall was built around re-visiting places we first saw well over 20 years ago.
The beach at Trebarwith Strand is one of my favourites in Cornwall, along with Kynance Cove and Bedruthan Steps.
Like the others, it disapears completely at high tide and I think that this is part of the fascination, waiting and watching as the sand appears with the receding tide and knowing that you had best make the most of it because in 5 hours time it will be lost to the waves again!
This is a 30 second exposure taken when it was very nearly dark. I have to say that this is one theme that I have not yet "cracked" but, if you don't try........

By contrast with the evening (high tide) shot of Trebarwith posted a few days ago this is the beach at low tide taken from the headland carpark of the Port William Hotel. This was the closest we got to a clear sky all week! 4 frame stitch using the Powershot SXI.

This is a stitch of 7 portrait orientation shots taken from the roof terrace of the excellent Pedn-Olva Hotel on the other side of the bay from the main beach. I have taken this shot many times over the years (and posted a couple!) but it now occurs to me that I have never seen it wt high tide. Strangely strange!
