Some 23 years ago, we stayed in a holiday cottage at the beautiful Halgabron Mill, between Tintagel and Boscastle on the North Cornwall coast (See map). Halgabron is actually in St. Nectan's Glen and we always intended to take the walk up the Glen to the ultimate goal, the waterfall at St. Nectan's Kiev. However, my wife being heavily pregnant with number 2 son at the time, it never happened. We put that to right this year and I'm glad we did!
I wouldn't like to guess how long it is since this tree fell across the brook but it would have been interesting to be there! It's now, slowly but surely disapearing into the undergrowth.
Knowing thet the treck was fairly long, steep and muddy, I left the tripod in the car....bad move! So this is taken (as seems to be happening ever more frequently) "shooting blind" from waist height with the 5D II set at ISO 2,000 and f8 to give a fairly slow shutter speed. Same shot taken 5 times and this one was the pick of the crop! (Sorry to go on. You never know. Someone out there might find it interesting?!?)

The National Trust describes Castle Drogo as "The last castle to be built in England". Built in the early 1900's as a family home and lasting monument to the empire of Julius Drew (Founder of The Home and Colonial Stores) to designs by Edwin Lutyens but curtailed by the onset of war, I reckon it still lives up to that title.

As usual, a fair old few folk removed from the foreground, the notable exception being my good lady in the doorway.

For some reason she insisted on being left in the final pic. She also totally forbad any reference to "Magnificent Frontages" but I wasn't sure what she meant!

Waiting patiently for the falling tide to reveal the sandy beach at Trebarwith Strand on the North Cornwall Coast. Within an hour, it was very busy!

I've still got loads of pics from our Cornish holiday. I will trickle them into my stream over the Autumn, just to brighten it up a bit!

The Electrical switch room at Castle Drogo. There's a lot of really whizzo invention-type stuff in the castle and this is where all the juice is controled from

Another "Messing about " pic. There was no way I could get a pic of the twin ranges in the amazing solid granite kitchens at Castle Drogo. The table was in the way.
Two "shots from the hip" and a bit of nifty stitching did the trick, though!
