Leon Haslam, aboard his Honda CBR1000RR, making Marco Melandri and his Aprilia RSV4 1000 work hard for their supper during today's UK leg of the World Superbike Series at Donnington Park. What promised to be a wet and dismal day when we left home at 7.45 turned into an almost perfect day for bike racing. Talking to my good lady, I reckon this is the first time I've been to a bike race in more than 15 years. Not many names that I recognised (obviously, Leon's dad was one of my heroes, And Melandri was still a teenager, just breaking into the big time) but I thoroughly enjoyed it!

If you are anything like my age (61!) you will know that there is something that will be for ever special about a racing bike sporting the number "7". Being a sentimental old fool, it still brings a lump to my throat, thinking back to my early days watching bike racing in the 70's.

I took the new Gopro along to Donnington just to have a play with it. This is a shot of Eugene Laverty's Suzuki GSX-R1000. Taken "blind" from waist-level and about 10 ft away and cropped down. You can see the distortion on the verticals in the distance but I think this is pretty good?

Just playing about a bit, stitching together consecutive shots from the 3.8fps burst as the subject flies by at full tilt. In this case it's Tom Sykes on the Kawazaki. These are shot at 1/4,000sec, f4.5. Have a look at each of the images for the "freeze-frame" detail.
