This is cinnamon toast, slices of white sandwich bread buttered on one side, then sprinkled with a layer of sugar and topped with cinnamon, then broiled until it looks like this. The edges should end up lightly toasted. I don't know if this is a regional thing, I haven't really seen it in other places I've lived, but we had it fairly often when I was growing up.

This is a dinner with a huge calorie load: fried chicken and mashed potatoes with butter running down the sides. Although I know people who could eat all this, I only had one piece and a normal portion of potatoes, lol. And to be fair, the chicken came from Popeye's Louisiana Kitchen, the potatoes were instant ones. At least the water for the potatoes was home cooked...
