This is the Portland Head Lighthouse and keeper's cottage on Cape Elizabeth, now part of Portland, Maine. Originally finished in 1791, it has been raised two times but still remains in operation, although it is now fully automated. It is operated (as all U.S. lighthouses) by the US Coast Guard. Shown on a typically gloomy Maine day (a rainy Monday morning). In the background is the Ram Island Ledge Light Station, a smaller structure built in 1883 that is not open to the public.

On a trip to rural Maine for a wedding, we stayed in this old house, which was formerly a hotel from 1859 to 1936. It was located in Naples, a small vacation destination on one of Maine's largest lakes. I was quite surprised at how many vacationers were still there well after Labor Day, although a number of businesses were already shut down for the winter.

Saw this on a walk around Naples, Maine while visiting for a wedding. It is a paddleboat called the Songo Rivewr Queen, and apparently carries tourists around the lake. Unfortunately, it was already shut down for the winter - anything tourist related seems to close down on Labor Day.
