Als EC197 Zürich HB (17:33) - München Hbf (21:04) ist diese Verbindung einer der wenigen relationen in Doppeltraktion von RABe503 "Astoro" und ohne Halt im Grenzbahnhof St. Margrethen. Der Zug überquert dabei den 568 meter langen Galgentobelviadukt. Dieser ersetzte die eingleisige Streckenführung im Steinachtal entlang eines Kriechhanges, der mehrfach zu Betriebsunterbrechungen führte. Darunter zählt der Hangrutsch im Frühjahr 1975. Dieser unstabile bereich wurde mit einer Notbrücke überspannt, welche im Sommer 1975 erstellt worden ist. Die endgültige Lösung zu diesem Problems wurde mit der realisierung eines Zweigleisigen Viaduktes aus Spannbeton mit zehn Pfeiler, der den gesamten instabilen Hangbereich als Streckenvariante umfährt. Das Galgentobelviadukt wurde nach einer Belastungsprobe am 4. April 1982 eröffnet. Diese erfolgte mit zwölf zusammen gekuppelten Ae 6/6, welches einer Masse von 1.440 tonnen auf 220,8 metern entsprach (also etwa 6,5 t/m). Dabei bog sich die Brücke um 15 Millimeter durch, was den berechneten Werten entsprach.
Das zweite Gleis wurde dabei anfänglich nicht verlegt. Der Doppelspurausbau erfolgte im gleichen Jahr 1982 von der neugeschaffenen Dienststation Engwil (nach dem Brückenkopf auf St.Galler Seite) nach Mörschwil. Erst 1994 wurde der restliche Abschnitt zwischen Mörschwil und der Betriebstelle Horchental zweigleisig Ausgebaut.

As EC197 Zurich HB (17:33) - Munich Hbf (21:04), this connection is one of the few services in double traction with RABe503 "Astoro" and without a stop at St. Margrethen border station. The train crosses the 568 metre long Galgentobel viaduct. This replaced the single-track line in the Steinach Valley along a creeping slope, which led to service interruptions on several occasions. This unstable area was spanned by an emergency bridge, which was built in the summer of 1975. The final solution to this problem was the realisation of a double-track viaduct made of prestressed concrete with ten pillars, which bypassed the entire unstable slope area as a route variant. The Galgentobel Viaduct was opened on 4 April 1982 after a load test. This was carried out with twelve Ae 6/6 trains coupled together, which corresponded to a mass of 1,440 tonnes over 220.8 metres (i.e. around 6.5 t/m). The bridge deflected by 15 millimetres, which corresponded to the calculated values.
The second track was not laid initially. The double track was extended in the same year 1982 from the newly created Engwil service station (after the bridgehead on the St.Gallen side) to Mörschwil. It was not until 1994 that the remaining section between Mörschwil and the Horchental service station was upgraded to double track.(Photo taken with Drone)

Mit der Sperrung der Südbahn zwischen Biberach und Bad Schussenried vom 26. Oktober bis zum 03. Dezember aufgrund von Brückenarbeiten ist die südliche Bodenseeregion und Vorarlberg von dem elektrifizierten Fernverkehr in richtung Ulm und Stuttgart gekappt. Darunter auch das im Sommer 2023 auf die Baureihe 412 umgestellte Zugpaar ICE 118/119 "Bodensee". Da die Züge von norden her ihren Ziel nicht erreichen können wird der Zug von Innsbruck bis Lindau-Reutin mit einer Tiroler Ersatzgarnitur mit der Reihe 1144 durchgeführt.
Am morgen des 23.11 zeigte sich 1144.098 mit dieser Garnitur am Brazer Bogen.

With the closure of the Südbahn between Biberach and Bad Schussenried from October 26th to December 3rd due to bridge works, the southern region of Lake Constance and Vorarlberg are cut off from electrified long-distance traffic from and towards Ulm and Stuttgart. This also includes the ICE 118/119 “Bodensee” pair of trains, which were converted to the 412 series in the summer of 2023. Since the trains from the north cannot reach their destination, the train from Innsbruck to Lindau-Reutin is carried out with a Tyrolean replacement train hauled with the 1144 series.
On the morning of November 23rd, 1144.098 showed up at the Brazer Bogen with ICE 118.

il 17.09.2023 è stato organizzato da ItaliaOnRails un treno speciale fotografico composto dalla E636.161, recentemente attrezzata con il sistema SCMT e quindi atta a circolare sulla rete della IFN, un bagagliaio DI Grigio ardesia, una vettura corbellini grigio ardesia, una vettura centoporte grigio ardesia ed un carro F, rievocando una tipica composizione di un treno locale degli anni '70. La composizione è ripresa su uno dei maestosi viadotti della ferrovia Roma-Sulmona, nei pressi di Prezza.

L'autunno nel 2019 si fece attendere particolarmente a lungo per via di un estate particolarmente piovosa. Come Regionale 11227 sale l'ETR425.022 su per le rampe della linea del col di Tenda, superando il Viadotto Rivoira, conosciuto localmente anche come "Pont Salèt", a fronte della borgata che attraversa all'altezza di 45 metri.
Autumn in 2019 was particularly long overdue due to a particularly wet summer. Meanwhile the ETR425.022 working as regional train 11227 climbs up the ramps of the Col di Tenda line, passing the Rivoira Viaduct, also known locally as 'Pont Salèt', in front of the village it crosses at a height of 45 metres.

Una scena consueta, quella di Captrain italia a Busca, che come ogni mattina si impegnava di manovrare in stazione per poi recarsi a Cuneo con la prima muta di carri vuoti, che proseguivano a Torino con una doppia di D100. Dal subentro di EVM a Busca la musica è cambiata. La manovra avviene ora di pomeriggio e con la D744, da Cuneo invece il treno viene preso in carico da una E191 che lo porterà fino a Villa Opicina.

It was a usual scene, that of Captrain italia at Busca, which as every morning was shunting into the station and then go to Cuneo with the first group of empty cars, which would continue to Turin with a double traction of D100 locomotives and further then with an E483 to Domodossola or Villa Opicina. Since Railway operator EVM took over at Busca, the music has changed. The shunting now takes place in the afternoon and with the D744 locos, from Cuneo the train is now taken over by an E191 that will take the train to Villa Opicina.
