If you've made it this far, the terminus of an 8 mile shortcut connecting Lompoc and Los Alamos -- then you missed the ghost who wanders the roadway.
According to legend ( of which there are many, different centuries, different stories, same ghost ) Agnes was killed in an accident ( either car or horse drawn carriage depending on legend) on Harris Grade and separated from the baby she was holding. She wanders at night stopping drivers and asking if they've seen her baby.....
A great U Tube video called 'Agnes of Harris Grade' also gives you the roller coaster ride that this wonderful road is.....

There's been some 10 fatalities over the last 25 years, with countless car, motorcycle and bicycle accidents during that period.
Also kind of fun to watch those tractor/trailer combo's get caught and trapped about half way up....
This road built in 1916 was the main route between Santa Maria and Lompoc until 1988 ( before my time here --- must have been NUTS ).
It lost it's designation as the great State Highway 1 at that time, altho it still shows up that way on certain puzzled tourists maps....

Showing a bit more of the Tunnel Farming that is going on just out of town --- in this case we're covering our strawberries (much better than the old poison they used to use ! ).
We've got the winter ground cover crop of alfafa in the background.
You'll see a lot of this Hoop Farming going on, in the past they were shading a lot of Black and Blueberries -- more recently they are sheltering a much more profitable crop ( more to come )
