They want their 'pretty as a postcard' images back and for me to stop showing the 'downside' of our fair city.
This is from the Boston Collage archives and must have been sometime in the 30's as our famous H Street Italian Stone Pines, which line the downtown residential area, are not yet evident.

The population has grown from some 4,000 residents to over 44k now (not counting our guests up at the prison)---
The Italian Stone Pines have grown up around our main drag of H Street which at this point is also California Highway One......

Lompoc's cornerstone building stands strong and yet another working day begins.....
Back in the day, home to the Valley Club the proverbial 'good ole boy' network that ran the town...served a LOT of liquor there -- back when cocktails for lunch were just part of the deal....

Our first mayor and builder operated the Lompoc Hotel and a general merchandise store opening in 1894 (wow we have history!) --- The next door IOOF (Independent Order of Odd Fellows) is no longer fulfilling their mission to "Visit the sick, relieve the distressed, bury the dead and educate the orphan" -- sounds like we should be reviving these "Odd Fellows"...

As the fog lifts it reveals our Pink Catholic Church downtown --- looking up and out some 5 miles off we see the Lompoc Prison (LomPOKE not LomPOCK - ok every single Law & Order TV episode ?!?)
At one stage it (the prison, not the church) was a minimum security "country club prison' holding Richard Nixon's aides ( Holdeman, Kalmbach) along with other guys such as Christopher Boyce the "Falcon and Snowman" spy who escaped from here and the Scientologist, Ponzi scheme originator Reed Slatter, and good ole financier Ivan Boesky.
Now a medium security, hard ass location......not recommended.
