In the summer of 2014, contractor crews seismically retrofit the supporting columns of the SR 410 Scatter Creek Bridge near Enumclaw, WA.

The crews placed steel jackets around the bridge piers which will help keep the piers stable and reduce the risk of collapse in the event of an earthquake.

In addition one of the bridge piers had become vulnerable to erosion from the creek. To combat this, crews added rocks and other material to prevent water from washing away the banks around the bridge pier.

Fish habitat in the stream was also improved, thanks the removal of concrete and rebar debris left behind from an old bridge. Woody debris and other native vegetation was added to help improve the creek and surrounding environment.

Six months later, water is rushing through the creek in this January 2015 photo.

They also improved the streambed by removing debris including concrete and rebar. Instead the stream has a new look with rocks, and woody debris. It's a night and day difference from how it looked before work began.

Crews carefully replanted the entire area including the access road in the spirit of "leave no trace."

it will take a few years for all the plants to take root and hold, but eventually this access road will be difficult to find.

Finishing up the project involves cleanup too... and that means covering our tracks.

The access road was cleaned up and replanted with native vegetation. It may take several years, but eventually it will be difficult to tell there was once an access road.

They also improved the creek bed by cleaning it up. Cleanup including removing big chunks of concrete and rebar that was left in the creek when a different bridge was demolished many many years ago.
