Heat is applied to a White River Bridge beam during repair work April 9. Heating the beams with a torch in repetitive, heating-and-cooling cycles allows workers to gradually straighten the beams that were discovered to be damaged during a routine inspection. The bridge closed April 4 when bridge engineers discovered the damage, believed to have been caused when an over-height load struck the structure.

A brand new horizontal beam is in place on the SR 410 White River Bridge between Enumclaw and Buckley.

The new beam replaces one that was damaged when it was struck by an over-height load in April 2015.

The beam will be welded to the vertical beams on other side and the diagonal braces above it so permanently repair the bridge.

The lower half of the temporary support structure on the White River Bridge. The temporary support structure is a critical component in allowing workers to repair the bridge by providing extra stability to the structure. The bridge was closed April 4 after a routine inspection found damage to a horizontal beam believed to have been caused by an over-height load.

A look at the work area on the White River Bridge from the Buckley side of the bridge. Workers are repairing damaged beams found during a routine inspection, which caused the closure of the bridge. Bridge engineers believe an over-height load struck the bridge, causing a large dent in a horizontal beam.
