In the spring of 2015, contractor crews working for WSDOT began repaving a four mile stretch of southbound SR 509 near Burien, WA.

This section of highway is well known as the "Burien Freeway."

To repave the highway, the crews first removed the top two inches of the existing pavement.

After that is done, they began putting down the new asphalt. Once the new asphalt is placed, the crews must then wait approximately three weeks for it to cure before they can install the permanent striping.

Repaving the highway extends its lifespan, reduces the need for costly emergency repairs and creates a smoother ride for drivers.

In the spring of 2015, contractor crews began repaving a four mile stretch of southbound SR 509 in Burien, WA.

Popularly known as the "Burien Freeway," this a well-known route to Sea-Tac Airport.

But some sections were last paved in 1995. Over the years the pavement has deteriorated due to heavy use by passenger cars and large trucks.

Repaving the highway through this area will extend the lifespan of the highway, provide a smoother drive and reduce the need for costly repairs.
