A Bi-State Travel time sign located on westbound SR 14 in Vancouver shows drivers how long it will take to get to I-5 via SR 14, or I-84 if they take I-205. Sensors embedded in the roadway measure the speed of vehicles passing through that particular location.

Bi-State Travel Time sign located on southbound I-5, near SR 502, gives drivers real-time traffic information to make informed traffic decisions. The shortest distance between “Point A” and “Point B” may be a straight line, but if that straight line is backed up and congested, a different route might save you time. For example, you could take southbound I-5 from north Clark County to the Rose Quarter in Portland, or take I-205 to I-84. The direct I-5 route is shorter in distance, but it could take longer if a stalled car or a crash blocks a lane of traffic. Diverting could put more miles on your car but shave minutes off your trip.

The Washington State Department of Transportation and the Oregon State Department of Transportation have strategically installed electronic travel signs at key driver decision points on both sides of the river. Drivers in Vancouver and Portland can use this new tool to make informed decisions while on the road. Diverting to a different route could put more miles on your car but shave minutes off your trip.
