In December 2017 WSDOT contractor crews from Strider Construction worked to repair a bank that was sloughing away into the Nooksack River. WSDOT worked with environmental agencies to get the needed permits, then closed a lane of traffic on SR 542 at milepost 45 (east of Glacier). Crews put in natural materials to protect the bank - and the road and add to fish habitat in the river.
