What a difference five years makes. The concrete Seattle City Light building on the far right is about the only clue these photos were taken from the same location.
In the 2014 photo that location was the former intersection of SR 99/Aurora Avenue North and Republican Street in Seattle's South Lake Union neighborhood. At middle right early work is underway on the ramp and roadway connections to the SR 99 tunnel's north portal.
In the 2019 photo, the SR 99 tunnel is open, and everything has changed, including many of the buildings. That's the northbound tunnel off-ramp to Dexter Avenue in the foreground and northbound SR 99 traffic exiting the tunnel to the right.

Aerial view of reconstruction work underway on Aurora Avenue North between Harrison Street and Denny Way in Seattle's South Lake Union neighborhood. The project will fill in the approach to the old Battery Street and make it possible for Thomas and John streets to cross Aurora for the first time in more than 60 years.
