One of the reasons why this highway is so popular for travelers is views like this. That's why it's important we maintain the slope above it to reduce the opportunity for that material to fall onto SR 7. Our inspector on the project shared this beautiful sunset photo from Monday night.

On July 22, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation began removing trees, rocks and brush to reduce the opportunity for that material to fall onto SR 7 between La Grande and Alder, between mileposts 23 and 25.
For the safety of the crews and the traveling public, this work must be done during daylight hours.

Contractor crews worked into the evening of day one of slope stabilization work on State Route 7 between milepost 23-25. The contractor ended up keeping SR 7 closed overnight due to the amount of debris that was removed during the day. The contractor plans on resuming to the normal work hours on Tuesday, July 23. Crews are closing SR 7 between mileposts 23-25 daily from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Project information is available here: www.wsdot.wa.gov/projects/sr7/alder-rock/home
