Construction crews are building a new northbound high occupancy vehicle lane on SR 167 from Sumner to Auburn. Northbound drivers are seeing regular overnight ramp and lane closures at the SR 167/ SR 512 interchange and the SR 167/SR 410 interchange. Over the weekend of Aug. 20-23, construction crews put a new roadway surface on a widened northbound SR 167 from Sumner to Pacific. Eventually, the widening highway will have a new HOV lane open.

Building a new HOV lane in the northbound direction of SR 167 meant that two overpasses had to be modified and upgraded. This meant old drainage structures had to be moved and new asphalt was installed on the bridge decks. This photo shows the waterproof layer on the bridge deck that was installed during the weekend closure of northbound SR 167. You can see it's a tight work area, which is a big reason why we closed the highway down entirely for this work.
