About 200 yards north of the Black Diamond Natural Area, the old road bed for SR 169 has faded to a narrow trail. Once WSDOT is done with a temporary bypass along this section, we will remove all the pavement and restore the area to its natural state.

About 300 yards from the Black Diamond Natural Area parking lot, there's no sign of a roadway unless you dig for it. WSDOT will use this old roadbed to create a bypass for SR 169 as we build a new bridge over Ravensdale Creek. Once work is complete, all the pavement will be removed and the area restored to a natural state.

This narrow culvert under SR 169 makes water flow too quickly for salmon, steelhead and resident fish to continue upstream. Replacing the culvert with a bridge, along with removing one additional culvert and replacing another, will restore the natural creek and open up about 2.4 miles of additional habitat for marine life.

To build a new bridge for SR 169 over Ravensdale Creek, contractor crews built a temporary bypass and realigned the intersection of SR 169 and Southeast 288th Street. This photo shows the intersection prior to the bypass going into use.
