Between 2022 and 2026, the SR 167 Completion Project will build the first 2 miles of new SR 167, directly connecting I-5 to SR 509 and the Port of Tacoma. The project includes a new interchange over I-5 and shared-use path alongside the highway.

Under the SR 167/I-5 to SR 509 Expressway project approximately 150 acres of wetlands and streams near I-5 will be restored and revitalized. Called the Riparian Restoration Program, the project re-aligns creeks and streams, removes invasive vegetation, plants tens of thousands of native plants and encourages the return of native fish runs and animal life.
