After removing a series of broken concrete panels, contractor crews bring in truckloads of new concrete. After pouring and leveling these, the concrete requires serval hours to cure before the freeway can reopen.

After the concrete is poured to replace broken panels on northbound I-5 in Everett, crews smooth it. Once the concrete cures the lanes can reopen. When all of the panels have been replaces, contractor crews will return to grind the lanes to level the freeway surface.

When WSDOT replaces several concrete panels at once, we pour a larger section, then use a concrete saw to cut it into individual panels, like crews are doing here on northbound I-5 in Everett. Cutting a section into individual panels allows the sections to expand and contract with weather conditions.
