These boats remain stuck in the mud of Chichester Harbour although the tide is coming in to release them. About two hours after this photograph was taken all of the green areas in the foreground and in the middle of the shot were under several feet of water. High tide - an amazing natural phenomenon which takes place twice a day and has done so for millions if not billions of years!

Chichester Harbour has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Behind it are some of the hills of the South Downs National Park which only came into operation in 2011.

This timber framed thatched cottage is situated in a village completely surrounded by the South Downs National Park, possibly one of the most scenic areas in the County of Hampshire.

The cottage was built circa 1600 and was probably a small yeoman farmhouse. It is now a grade 2 listed building which gives it legal protection from substantial alteration or development.

This Super Sentinel steam powered lorry was built in Shrewsbury, England in 1930 and saw an active working life until just after 1957. It was permanently loaned to the Royal Navy, specifically HMS Sultan, in 1960 where it was completely refitted and restored. It was eventually purchased by HMS Sultan in 1970 and remains in their possession until this day. It has a top speed of 20mph and consumes 1 cwt of coal every 15 miles and 10 gallons of water every mile.

This photograph was taken at Southwick, Hampshire during a D Day revival event. Not quite sure what the driver is doing hanging out of the cab and looking towards the rear of the vehicle but thought it looked more interesting than having him looking to the front!

This dilapidated houseboat is in a narrow tidal creek off Chichester Harbour and has been there for some considerable time.

It intrigues me as I cannot make up my mind whether somebody lives there - I have not seen anybody on it but occasionally there is a window open although not today. Perhaps it is just used for storage!

I have photographed these two cottages in Southwick, Hampshire before but only individually as parked cars in the road were blocking the view. On this visit in June last year the village was hosting a D Day Revival weekend - hence the flags on one of the cottages. Parking in the road was heavily restricted so this shot was too good to miss!

The quiet village of Southwick rose to prominence in 1944 as in the lead up to the D Day landings on 6 June nearby Southwick House became the headquarters of the main allied commanders, General Dwight Eisenhower, Admiral Bertram Ramsey and General Bernard Montgomery. It was from Southwick House they planned and oversaw the invasion of Europe and are known to have used the Golden Lion public house in the centre of the village for an evening drink.
