Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada

Best viewed in Lightbox, i.e., click on the expand arrows at upper right.

Taken on my way back from Jasper National Park for my rendezvous with Moraine Lake early the next morning. That's Alberta Highway 93 in the foreground, AKA the Icefields Parkway.

This Mt. Wilson (3,260 meters) is not to be confused with the one in California which cradles the historically important Mt. Wilson Observatory which had the largest telescope in the world from 1917 to 1949 (the 2.5 meter Hooker telescope).

Anyway, I thought this a pretty view. It was originally a Pano combining two photos, but I ended up cropping away the area to the right, so it's just a single photo.

In retrospect, I wish I'd included just a little more of the highway.

Hindsville, Arkansas

(Best seen in Lightbox, i.e., click on the expand arrows at upper right.)

I'm not certain, but I don't believe it's either one. It looks to me that they're about to put on a new roof. This was shot in 2015 on my annual autumn trip to the Ozarks, and I haven't been back to this spot since to see if it's still standing. Haven't heard of Hindsville? It's a flyspeck of a town a little off the beaten path, so I'm sure you have that in common with a large majority of Arkansas' citizens.

I say "annual" Ozark trip, which has been true since at least 2011, but I missed it this year (2024). :-( That really sucked as I really enjoy wandering around the Ozark Hills, revisiting favorite spots and finding new ones. This year, in mortal fear of Trump getting reelected, I decided to volunteer with the Harris campaign. Sadly, as we all know, I would have been just as productive had I kept my Ozark appointments. :-(

Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada

As is usually the case with these Panos, best seen in lightbox, i.e., click on the expand arrows at upper right.

Would this have been a better photo with the sun behind me instead of in front of me? Very likely, but I was here when I snapped the photo, not hours before.

Alas, I have little idea where exactly this was taken. Somewhere between the town of Banff and the Lake Louise turnoff. It appears as if I'm on a bridge (though not necessarily), and if so, it's probably the bridge two or three miles south of that turnoff.

This was a tough image to work with as the contrast was terrible with that bright sky wreaking havoc. For one thing, the snow looked to be a dismal gray. Anway, I think I've finally made it presentable. We'll see if anyone agrees.

This is a Pano combining three photos using my 50mm lens.

Mount Rainier National Park, Washington State

Best viewed in Lightbox, i.e., click on the expand buttons at upper right.

From my first trip to the Northwest in 2022. Deciding where to crop led me to pull considerable bunches of my hair out! And in the end, I didn't crop at all, except for a slight adjustment to make it plumb. One of the possibilities I was looking at was cropping almost all of the bridge away to remove the artifice of Man, giving it the appearance of a completely natural setting. After a mental flip of the coin, we have the above.

Waterhole Slot Canyon, Arizona

Best seen in Lightbox, i.e., click on the expand arrows at upper right.

I've already uploaded several shots from my solo tour of this wonder of geology, and I suspect this will be the last. As I noted under those other pics, this lies within the Navajo Reservation around Page, AZ, and it can only be accessed with a tour guide. I was the only one to sign up for this time slot, so had a bit more time for shot selection without having to dodge a bevy of other photographers. It's not nearly as famous or well visited as its cousin, Antelope Canyon, which is the primary reason for choosing this this one. I've never been in Antelope, but from the myriad photos I've seen, it seems to be the more beautiful/photogenic of the two. But this one has absolutely nothing to be ashamed of . . . if slot canyons were capable of shame. If interested, you can find the other shots in my "Winter Trips to the Southwest" album: www.flickr.com/photos/80014607@N05/albums/72157713353689303/ . The most popular photo of the other six has been this one: www.flickr.com/photos/80014607@N05/53668057160/ .
