1/52 weeks for dogs
Although we have been in a little village on the countryside Gaia was trembling of fear when she heared the far away noise at midnight. She looks quite relaxed here but she was very excited.Harry instead was really relaxed.
We are very happy that all this celebrating is over now and noone is shooting anymore. Happy 2025 to all of you !

When we had to say goodbye to Della in December of 2023 I really didn’t think we were going to get another puppy. We talked about getting an older dog and I contacted Della’s breeder to see if she knew of any older Aussies that were looking for a home. We had always stayed in contact with her and she saw photos all the time of the kind of life we gave Della and Tug. She told us she didn’t know of any older Aussies looking to be placed. She hadn’t had a littler of pups for eight years. However, if we were interested she was going to use fifteen years old frozen sperm from one of her best dogs to impregnate a fellow breeders tri color female. They didn’t know if it would work because the sperm was so old but if it did would we be interested in one of the pups.
Of course we said yes. Her male dog was related to distantly Della and the grandmother of the mother dog was Della’s sister. The breeding worked and they had five beautiful blue merle puppies. Three girls and two boys. They called them the frozen litter because of using the frozen sperm and they all got names from Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavors.
We let the breeder pick out the pup for us and we ended up with Minter Wonderland who they called Minty. We loved the name so we kept it. We were the only people they let a puppy go to so we felt really honored to get her. We saw the pups at six weeks and picked her up at ten weeks.
This is the first time we have had a puppy without having an older dog in the house in over thirty years. I can tell you it is a lot easier to have a puppy when you have another dog! The other dog gets the lion’s share of the biting with those sharp little teeth.
Minty has very distinctive markings. One side of her is almost all black and the other side is very merle looking. She has one blue eye and one brown eye. It’s kind of like half of her is Tug and half of her is Della. She is all her own personality though. She is sweet and affectionate but a bit wild. She loves playing with other dogs.
She is making sure my husband and I get out and be active which is good for us. Funny how you forget all the naughty things puppies do. She is like Tug in that no lower branches on shrubs are safe from her if her ball lands under them. She also has a thing for laying on plants. My poor hosta was a mess by the end of the summer. She thought it was funny to grab a leaf, rip it off and run around with it…that was after she squished it flat by laying it.
Hopefully she will outgrow a lot of the puppy nonsense and become a good dog. We are having fun with her and love having a dog in our home again.
Looking forward to seeing some old friends here and making some new ones.
Happy New Year to all.
