Our first encounter with a New Yorker - Magar greeted us at our hotel on East 44th Street. Part of the K-9 unit, Magar's specialty was detecting bombs. It seems being in a hotel next to the United Nations has its privileges!

He was a real charmer - every time we saw him we'd call his name and he'd perk-up with a wag and a lick. How can you not be a dog lover with a face like that!

The awesome SR-71 Blackbird, on display at New York's Intrepid Air & Space museum.

The Lockheed SR-71 "Blackbird" was an advanced, long-range, Mach 3+ strategic reconnaissance aircraft. It was developed as a black project from the Lockheed A-12 reconnaissance aircraft in the 1960s by the Lockheed Skunk Works. Clarence "Kelly" Johnson was responsible for many of the design's innovative concepts. During reconnaissance missions the SR-71 operated at high speeds and altitudes to allow it to outrace threats.

Bottom of the Rock - Rockefeller Plaza facing 5th Ave.

Atlas is a bronze statue in front of Rockefeller Center in midtown Manhattan, New York City, across Fifth Avenue from St. Patrick's Cathedral. The sculpture depicts the Ancient Greek Titan Atlas holding the heavens. It was created by sculptor Lee Lawrie with the help of Rene Paul Chambellan, and it was installed in 1937.

The sculpture is in the Art Deco style, as is the entire Rockefeller Center. Atlas in the sculpture is 15 feet tall, while the entire statue is 45 feet tall, as high as a four-story building. It weighs seven tons, and is the largest sculpture at Rockefeller Center. The North-South axis of the armillary sphere on his shoulders points towards the North Star as seen from New York City.

When Atlas was unveiled in 1937, some people protested, claiming that it looked like Italian dictator Benito Mussolini. Later, painter James Montgomery Flagg said that Atlas "looks too much as Mussolini thinks he looks".

Shot using Aperture Priority (f/22) and ISO 250.

Best pizza in NYC!

In 1897 an Italian immigrant reinvented a Napoletana staple food into one of the worlds most eaten foods. New York City was the birth place of New York style pizza. During the year of 1905, Lombardi's was licensed by the City of New York, becoming America's First Pizzeria.

Over 100 years and still coveted as one of the Best Pizzeria's in the United States. Highly regarded and rated as the Best of New York , a City of Pizzeria's.

Two lions guard the entrance at the illustrious New York City public library. This one I believe is named "Patience".

During the 1930s, Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia named the lions Patience and Fortitude, for the qualities he felt New Yorkers would need to survive the economic depression. These names have stood the test of time: Patience still guards the south side of the Library's steps and Fortitude sits unwaveringly to the north.
