Malin Beg, Glencolmcille, County Donegal, Ireland
What more could one say about the Silver Strand Beach other than it’s simply one of the most stunning beaches you could ever lay eyes on. Certainly, one of Ireland’s finest horseshoe beaches complete with its surrounding natural sea grass landscape. Located on the extreme western point of rural Donegal, far away from the everyday bustling of congested towns and traffic jams.
On arrival you are still extremely high above this cove which was carved deep into the surrounding bedrock throughout millions of years of wave erosion. There’s a steep 174 stepped path leading down to this dreamy beach. An experience your mind will never forget walking down and an experience your legs will never forget from climbing back up them Great for both your body & mind.....
In the background can be seen the mighty Slieve League Cliffs ridge, with its peak dipping in and out of passing clouds. These magnificent cliffs run the entire coastline from Slieve League car park right along to Silver Strand Beach car park. An unforgettable trail for many hikers & walkers

Malin Beg Bay, Glencolmcille, County Donegal, Ireland
One of Ireland's most traditional fishing harbours can be found on Malin Beg. No fancy electronic cranes, led lights, signage everywhere nor modern boats with loud power engines are found here on this little harbour. Instead, there are beautiful traditional wooden row style boats which haven’t changed in design for hundreds of years. Each one lovingly hand painted the most beautiful colours of blue imaginable. All right next to the old harbour master’s cottage still overlooking today.
These little boats travel out along Malin Beg Bay each morning at the break of dawn dropping their lobster pots into deep waters. At the end of each day after fishing for some fresh mackerel, pollock & whiting the fishermen would return in anticipation to retrieve their precious pots, hopefully full of delicious lobsters and crabs.
The only thing that will force these fishermen to remove their wooden boats out of these waters is the threat of stormy seas as seen here. After putting so much craftsmanship and care into their beloved boats, there is no way they are going to leave them in open water to the mercy of storms. This is why these little wooden boats have lasted decades and will likely last a few more judging by the care & love their skippers have for each of them.

Lettermacaward, County Donegal, Ireland
The river Gweebarra is a 20 mile stretch of river which starts flowing from Lough Barra deep in the Derryveagh mountains. From around halfway this mountainous river water gradually becomes estuarine water. This is where freshwater meets and mixes with salt water from the ocean, which is pushed up the river estuary inland for miles during each high tide.
This estuarine river creates brackish water around the mouth of the bay. What I love about the area around the Gweebarra Bridge is that you can clearly see where both water types collide and mix into one. The fresh brownish tainted bogland river water suddenly meets the clear blue salt waters of the Atlantic Sea, creating a river of two different colours which I find fascinating to whiteness
This really shows and proves how connected our waterways and our oceans truly are. Anything deposited into these lakes, streams and rivers even 20 miles inland from the shore will gradually flow and find its way out to sea. I hope it's only peat and natural minerals that make their way along our rivers in future and nothing man-made 💚

Moorlough, Glenmornan - Donemana, Strabane, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland
Moorlough is a small freshwater lake nestled high in the Sperrin hills and surrounded by pretty much nothing more than peat bogland and heather. No shops, ice cream vans nor hotels are found here. Although for it being in such a rural location, Moorlough still draws the locals to its shores just as it has done so for centuries. It’s the sheer isolation of Moorlough in which I believe people find most attractive.
Some of you my relate to what I’m now about to tell you about this lake, especially if you grew up in Ireland. Our local lakes where also known as “The Beach” to all children 😂. As a child this lake was my alternative beach! When the sun shined and I pleaded with my parents “I wanna go to the beach” their immediate response was to drive me and my sisters the entire 8 mile journey to Moorlough 😎. It has a small area on its shore where the local council has added a few loads of sand known as ‘The paddling pool’. This was the "beach” for all locals when they were children and it’s still “The local beach” for their own children & grandchildren even to this day.
I remember us all wearing swimsuits with buckets/spades and our wee hearts jumping with delight each time we topped the hill and laid eyes on this lake. Surrounded by brown heather, brown trees and seeing the sun reflect of its peat-stained brown waters
Not quite the Atlantic blue we nowadays dream off but we had the greatest days of our childhood there on our wee beach, as many other families still do today. When something works…. why change it?

Errigal Mountain, Dunlewey, Gweedore, County Donegal, Ireland
Errigal is the tallest mountain in Donegal. A very iconic and symbolic mountain to the county and all its folk. As part of the “Seven Sisters” mountain chain which make up the Derryveagh mountain range, she is the absolute pride of Donegal. With bright white snow flowing down each side like a stunning gown, quite unlike any other mountain in Ireland… well other than her little sister Mackoght as seen on the left off course, also known as Little or Wee Errigal 🗻
In the distant right you can see the beautiful Poisoned Glen & Dunlewey Lough. These are some of the many reasons on why I love to visit this area so often. Errigal being the main attraction of course. Due to fresh snowfall and colourful skies reflecting down, ‘Lady Errigal’ was fair showing off that day. All dressed up in her snow white winter’s dress, she's quite the stunner.
