As if we all need another 'Mesa Arch' sunrise shot right?

Even though it's been done to death it's still one of the most spectacular landscapes that you'll ever see. As a cynical photographer who's traveled the world it still took my breath away to stand at this very spot.

I wanted to share this 7 shot pano that I took back in spring. This was taken a good hour after the sun had risen and the sunstar hunters had gotten their shots and left. These days that's the only way you'll get a clear shot of the entire arch without someone either in front of it or on top of it.

This was taken at 'Island in the Sky' in Canyonlands, Utah just before the mother of all downpours descended upon us.

We sheltered under an overhang just out of the shot while thunder and lightening exploded all around us. It was one of the best moments of my life.

I was so excited, I completely forgot that my polarizer was blocking the rainbow and couldn't understand why it wasn't showing up in my shot. With one turn of the filter I was back in business and got the shot.

Did you fall for my little trick there? The image above isn’t really the record breaking photo from Peter Lik that
recently sold for $6.5 million dollars, but it’s pretty close. It’s actually a photo that I took in the spring of 2013 at the very same location entitled ‘Ancestors’.
