Cue the Free Design..! This is a composite of The Kite Festival at Montrose Beach that happened yesterday in Chicago. Basically, I took all of my favorite kites and created a multiple exposure image where by using history brush I eliminated overlapping kites I didn't like as much to create a more hypersurreal visual image. It took me about an hour and a half but I got something I ended up liking so much better. Original shots were mainly using my fisheye lens so there wasn't as much manipulation in terms of that-that's natural distortion from the lens. Also viewing large is best!

Please feel free to listen..: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pm1iblowMgs&feature=related

I don't usually take photographs of actors even though I like films but I was very excited to see Philip Seymour Hoffman at The Music Box talking about his new film, which he both stars in and directs. The film is called Jack Goes Boating and, while it's not my favorite film that he stars in, it's a good film that is worth seeing and interesting to see his directorial debut.

The most talented actor alive is imo Daniel Day Lewis but Philip Seymour Hoffman is a close second. He has starred in many films. He might be most known for Capote but his minor part as the Mattress Man in Punch Drunk Love is unforgettable. He's done many films I've enjoyed but my favorite of all of them (and my favorite film of all time) is Charlie Kaufman directed Synecdoche. Philip Seymour Hoffman could do nothing else from this day forward and I'd still hold him dear for what he brought to that film.

In real life Philip Seymour Hoffman is just like what you would expect...unassuming, modest, seems like a regular guy. He's from my hometown (Rochester, NY) so finally seeing him in real life was so touching for me.

Anyhow, here's the two male leads of Jack Goes Boating from the Music Box on Thursday night.

For Record Store Day, I went to several record stores including Permanent Records, Laurie's Planet of Sound and Reckless Records (all three locations). In some ways, I think it's really strange to have this day only because I go to the record store pretty regularly and want people to understand that it's open every day...not just one Sat. of the year. Still, it's always neat to celebrate records. I'm personally a big fan of vinyl. I managed to find Phoenix's "Fences" 7" as well as a split b 7" between Stephin Merritt and Peter Gabriel as well as Trouble in Mind 7", the new MGMT (which I actually do LOVE!) limited edition on vinyl as well...and I found Patrick Watson's new album on cd which is still amazing to me here.

Gapers Block has alot more coverage about Record Store Day in Chicago here:

Lots of people there for the Tim Burton exhibit..couldn't take pictures inside which is a shame because they had a real life version of Edward Scissorhands. You'll have to use your imagination or just watch the film. This is a multiple exposure in case you didn't realize it. I was thinking how you go to bed at night and some of the people in the crowd stand out but alot are just blurry shadows without names or faces...yet, they make an impression on you still. Then, weeks later you have a dream and realize it was related to someone you quickly passed in the street. It seems strange to dream about someone whose name you don't know who you'll never see again but it happens. Your subconcsious mind is so tricky like that..it's on it's own, a very separate entity but it has a way of reminding you and making you feel the deepest regret.

That's one reason I take photographs.
