The last of my usable shots of whooping cranes in the Aransas National Wildlife refuge mear Rockport, Texas. Taken from a boat in the Intracoastal Waterway that runs along the edge of the refuge. This flock of about 300 birds winters in the refuge and breeds and summers in Canada. A long commute.

The city of Port Aransas, Texas hired a professional sand sculptor (yes there is such a thing!) to create this santa sculpture in Roberts Point Park in Port A. In the background is the intracoastal waterway leading back toward Corpus Christi Bay, with Aransas Pass and the Gulf of Mexico off to the right.

From the boat, hugging the shoreline of the Intercoastal watewrway within the Aransas Wildlife Refuge area, we saw this group of whooping cranes. It is very unusual, they are very territorial and normally you only see a family hanging out together (two adults and 1 colt, which has a cinnamon colored head). Whooping cranes are quite endangered, with an estimated 600 left in the world. This flock is around 300, and winters here along the Texas coast, summering and breeding in western Canada. For 117 in 2017, #59, it can fly.

For 122 pictures in 2022 #55 "Junction", this is the junction between two county roads in Nueces County, Texas, just southwest of the Corpus Christi city limits. They are CR45 and CR8A, graded gravel roads that really just provide access into this farm. The crop is sorghum, replacing the cotton that was here last year.
