The "One-Oh-Wonder" F-101 Voodoo celebrated its 70th anniversary this week! The Voodoo served in the skies of North Dakota with distinction from 1960 until retirement in 1977. Two units flew the 101, the 18th FIS based in Grand Forks, and the 119th Air Wing of the NDANG based in Fargo making it the only fighter jet to serve with 2 squadrons in North Dakota aviation history. My version is built in 1:40 scale and represents the 18th FIS "Blue Foxes".

The 5th Fighter Interceptor Squadron 'Spittin Kittens' was stationed in Minot, ND from 1960 to 1988 defending the Northern border from imminent soviet attack. Flying the F-106 until the early 1980's, the F-15A and B Eagles were the last aircraft to serve with the unit and the only Eagle squadron in North Dakota history. The unit was deactivated in 1988 as the soviet threat diminished with most of the aircraft transferred to Massachusetts. Each aircraft was typically armed with 4 AIM-7F sparrows and 4 AIM-9M sidewinders to counter any air opposition.

The McDonnell Douglas F-15A entered service in 1974 as a fighter interceptor. It was the first fighter in US service to have a greater than 1:1 thrust to weight ratio. F-15's served as defenders of the northern border with the 5th Fighter Interceptor squadron in Minot, ND until the unit was deactivated in 1988. Most were converted to F-15C's shortly after.
This model depicts the F-15A in 1:40 scale to match my other fighters. It is in the original all gray paint that the first Eagles carried before getting the more modern ghost gray camo scheme. Great examples of this aircraft in this livery can still be seen at the Dakota Territory Air Museum in Minot and at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford
