Contractor crews capture fish in Lake Creek to relocate them downstream, past the bridge work zone on SR 18, just south of I-90. Other workers carefully pump water from Lake Creek as fishers catch and release the last of the fish. The stream bypass and fish relocation occurred in early July, 2023.

Just about every weekday morning, traffic on Snoqualmie Parkway backs up to about Jacobia Street in Snoqualmie, WA. As you can see, all those drivers are trying to make a right hand turn onto westbound I-90. The current interchange is set up so those Snoqualmie Parkway drivers must wait their turn after oncoming traffic like that dump truck takes its turn. Waiting for each light to run through the full cycle takes time. As part of the I-90/SR 18 interchange improvement project, we will build a diverging diamond interchange at this intersection. Diverging diamonds have fewer traffic lights and allow more free right and left turns. In interim, we will rebuild the ramp onto westbound I-90 to allow Snoqualmie Parkway drivers to make a free right turn into a dedicated on-ramp lane. That means those drivers won't have to wait for other traffic, reducing congestion. The modified on ramp is scheduled to open by the end of 2019. Construction on the new interchange is scheduled to begin in 2021 with completion in 2023.

Eastbound traffic on SR 18 in Snoqualmie, WA can back up the highway quite a distance every weekday morning. Many freight haulers are trying to take the ramp to eastbound I-90. But many, many others will come straight through the intersection to turn west toward Bellevue and Seattle. It's not uncommon for vehicles to block the intersection.
The I-90/SR 18 interchange improvements project will address the interchange and widen SR 18.
To improve the interchange we will build a diverging diamond interchange. These interchanges have fewer traffic lights and more free right and left turns, allowing traffic to flow more quickly through it.
In addition, we will widen SR 18 from the interchange to just west of Raging River bridge. This newly widened section will link up to truck climbing lanes, resulting in two lanes headed west toward Tiger Mountain.
