Where SR 524 changes from Yew Way to Maltby Road west of SR 522 north of Woodinville, westbond traffic does not need to stop. Traffic going straight from southbound Yew Way onto SR 524 or from eastbound SR 524/Maltby Road must stop. This can create backups. To remedy this, in 2020 WSDOT will widen the road and adjust the alignment to have one through lane continuing north of Yew Way and left-turn only lane where SR 524 moves from Yew Way to Maltby Road. In addition, a Snohomish County project will add a crossing gate where the railroad tracks cross Maltby Road just west of Yew Way.
