With a section of the roadway excavated, our contractor crews placed the three sections of pipe at a shallow depth beneath SR 410. The existing 24-culvert can be seen under the ice at the right. The three new pipes will handle any overflow from the existing culvert during spring runoff.

With the three overflow culverts in place, our contractor crews back filled the excavated section of SR 410 and prepared to repave the highway and fully reopen it for those traveling to and from Crystal Mountain Ski Resort. Crews will return later this year to install a more permanent 10-foot culvert along Dry Creek's new channel, but that work will require the full closure of SR 410 for several days.

Our contractor crews excavated a section of SR 410 along Dry Creek's new channel so three sections of overflow pipe could be placed under the road surface. Though one lane was closed during the project, traffic to and from Crystal Mountain Ski Resort was able to alternate with only short delays.

After excavating a section of SR 410 near Crystal Mountain Ski Resort, our contractor crews placed three pipes to serve as overflow to the existing 24-inch culvert along Dry Creek's new channel. The downstream portion of the existing culvert can be seen below the new overflow pipe.

After Dry Creek's channel was dammed by a Nov. 5, 2022, debris flow, the creek was redirected to a channel that had a smaller culvert under SR 410. The debris flow plugged the smaller culvert and forced water and up to 2 feet of rocks, trees and debris to spill across SR 410 a few miles below Crystal Mountain Ski Resort.
