Ecken, Winkel und Straßen tauchten auf wie Bilder von Utrillo oder Pissarro, das Grau wurde bleich und fast silbrig, der Fluß war plötzlich da mit Brücken und Schleppern und Bäumen mit Knospen, den bunten Reihen der Bouquinisten und den Quadern der alten Gebäude am rechten Seine-Ufer."

"Paris et sa banlieue étaient là, grisâtres, laids et pluvieux ; mais plus ils s'enfonçaient dans la ville, plus l'enchantement commençait. Les coins, les angles et les rues apparaissaient comme des tableaux d'Utrillo ou de Pissarro, le gris devenait pâle et presque argenté, le fleuve apparut soudain avec ses ponts, ses péniches et ses arbres en bourgeons, les rangées multicolores des bouquinistes et les pierres de taille des vieux immeubles de la rive droite de la Seine."
