After docking at Bartolomé Island, we climbed the wooden staircase leading to the famous viewpoint. Before even reaching the top, I stopped to take this shot. What caught my eye was the crater in the water, a clear reminder of the island's volcanic origins.
That circular crater, partially submerged just off the coast, is a rigid cone formed by volcanic explosions when magma met seawater. Over time, erosion and rising sea levels filled it with water, creating a natural lagoon. These formations are scattered throughout the Galápagos, shaping the islands' dramatic landscapes.
